This is a real masterpiece. The Luba are known for carving exquisite ceremonial pipes, but I have not seen another as superb as this one, the craftsmanship and attention to detail are outstanding. I came across it in the late 1980’s from one of the regular visiting traders from Central Africa. He hadn’t received the piece first hand and unfortunately couldn’t enlighten me of it’s exact whereabouts.
