The Haussa live in the northern area of Nigeria and in adjacent countries. Many of them are nomads and they  traditionally reside in closely knit strict and small family groups. My friend Salim purchased this piece in the late 1990’s on one of his trips through the area. It  portrays a happy Haussa family unit, consisting of the father and two wives with three children.
