The Idoma live at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers. The style of painting the faces white is shared with the their neighbours, the Igbo. The mask was given to Nji Idriss Mbombo in the 1970’s in exchange for services. Being a fertility mask, the large horn is a symbol of sexual prowess.
